About Us
Independent Rehabilitation Services (IRS) offers a multidisciplinary
rehabilitation service for adults with neurological problems.
Our team provide services across the Melbourne Metropolitan
Region, offering extensive experience in the fields of Physiotherapy,
Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology to our clients.
We work closely with referrers, family and carers to establish
programs in the home and residential care sector to maximize functional
recovery.
We understand the complex needs of people requiring neurological
rehabilitation and can offer total management, periodic treatment or
one-off assessments and consultations.
Following assessment, client-focused treatment goals are
established and programs are developed with therapists from one or more
disciplines to help our clients on their path to recovery.
The majority of treatments IRS delivers are compensable,
with bodies such as the TAC, Workcover and the ABI Slow to Recover Program
covering the costs of treatment. We do accept referrals for Private clients
and many health funds provide some reimbursement for the treatment.
Referrals can be made by patient, family, carer or health
professional. No Doctor’s referral is required. We are approved
for Private Health Funds, TAC, Workcover and DVA.

Our Training Programs
Practice is an important element of the rehabilitation
process. For any task the therapist wants to improve, a training program
will be established for the patient which will include activities to
help facilitate the task. For example, if it is difficult for a patient
to get out of their chair, the therapist will establish strategies to
assist the achievement of this task. The program will be designed to
help families and carers assist the patient by practicing those activities
on a daily basis.
