Program Funding

An Integrated Approach

Ideally, the client and family will be able to access all therapies required from the one practice, such as IRS, as this allows joint goal setting and the development of a cohesive and dedicated program to ensure the best outcome for the client.

Currently, IRS provide Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology services, however, we refer clients requiring Neuropsychology, Clinical Psychology or Recreation Therapy onto other reputable agencies.

The Process

Once a referral has been received, appropriate clinical staff will be allocated to the care of the new client. IRS will then make contact with the compensable body to arrange funding for an initial assessment. If there is no compensable body involved and the care is funded by the client or their family, the cost of treatment is discussed with the client or family member at that time.

The therapists will then make an appointment with the client or carers to carry out an initial assessment.

This assessment is an important part of the process and is a great opportunity for the therapists to collect as much information regarding their new client as possible before their therapy program is developed.

TAC Funded Clients

The process for clients who are funded by the Transport Accident Commission is as follows:

After the initial assessment is completed the therapist will write a report to the TAC recording their findings and requesting funding based upon the goals established, (to be achieved within 3-6 months). These goals are established between themselves and the client and family or carers.

Slow to Recover Program

The process for clients who are currently funded by the Slow to Recover Program is as follows:

The amount of funding received for a specific therapy, such as Physiotherapy, is decided by the clinician who treated the client in hospital. Occasionally, IRS is asked to carry out the process used for TAC funded clients, however, this varies from case to case.

Eligibility

Eligibility for compensable programs is not decided by IRS. Clients must make contact with the relevant compensable body who will make that decision. Our therapists cannot provide treatment to any clients without prior approval of funding from the compensable body.

Funding

If the therapy is funded by a compensable body such as TAC, the Slow to Recover Program, the Department of Veteran Affairs or Post Acute Care, then there are no out of pocket expenses for the client or family. IRS invoices whichever body is responsible for your case and they pay us directly.

For clients who are ineligible for funding by a compensable body, IRS fees and terms are available from our office.
